When Michaela reached out for maternity photos near Waverly, Iowa, she envisioned something truly unique: a glamorous, western-themed session set against a snowy outdoor backdrop. Anyone familiar with Iowa weather knows it can be wildly unpredictable—especially in winter. As luck would have it, the snow she dreamed of didn’t quite cooperate. But, as I always say, unpredictable is where I thrive!
Michaela had a specific vision for her outfit—a golden velvet skirt paired with neutral tones. After searching high and low and coming up empty-handed, I decided to personally sew the perfect skirt to bring her dream look to life. (You can watch the behind-the-scenes creation right here!)
Since the weather was simply too cold for comfort, we moved her session indoors to my studio space. With thoughtful styling, the session quickly took on that western glam aesthetic Michaela loved. To tie her maternity session into the upcoming newborn photos, we incorporated an adorable newborn-sized cowgirl hat. Michaela’s original gown was a lovely pink, but she preferred neutral tones. Thanks to some Photoshop magic, we quickly transformed the dress into the perfect neutral shade.
Personalizing sessions down to every detail—like custom-sewn pieces or Photoshop adjustments—is at the heart of what I do. My goal is always to provide a stress-free, fully customized experience, so clients like Michaela never have to worry about anything but enjoying the moment.
Capturing this exciting milestone for Michaela was truly a joy, and it highlighted everything I love about maternity photography—creativity, flexibility, and personalized touches. Are you ready to plan your own session? Whether you’re in Cedar Falls, Waverly, Waterloo, or anywhere nearby, I’d love to make your vision come to life.
