Traveling for Treasured Moments

There’s no greater compliment for a photographer than when family members travel hours with a fresh c-section scar to have a session done. My sweet cousin made the journey from Kansas, just days after welcoming little Charlotte. If that’s not dedication to photography—and to me—I don’t know what is!

Spicy Little Redheads and My Secret Weapon

Now, let’s chat about little Charlotte. I always joke about those fiery redheads, but I wasn’t quite prepared for Charlotte’s determination to spice things up at 116 W 4th Street, my Cedar Falls studio. She was sleepy and angelic everywhere else but decided to put up a spirited performance the moment she arrived. But let’s face it, I thrive on the challenge, and my track record remains undefeated. 😉

Luckily, I came equipped with my secret weapon: the “Baby Burrito,” a swaddle I designed myself, sold in my prop store Little Moon Boutique. Click right there to see this wizzardry. Photographers, believe me when I say this swaddle is your next best friend—it kept Charlotte snug and transitioned effortlessly between setups, making even the fussiest babies feel secure.

Customized Setups & Exclusive Props

One thing I absolutely love about my job is creating exclusive photography props and customized setups. For Charlotte’s session, I showcased my personally designed posing fabrics, adding warmth and originality to each photo. Photography trends change constantly, and staying ahead means sometimes you have to create exactly what you envision yourself. That’s where my passion for design truly shines. Sibling Sweetness (and a Little Bribery!)

Charlotte’s older sister, Eva Jane, another adorable spicy redhead, wasn’t initially thrilled about photos with baby sis. However, my toddler-sized crowns changed her tune quickly. Every little queen needs her moment, right? A quick princess transformation and Eva Jane was camera-ready.

Capturing Sentimental Treasures

Lastly, we incorporated deeply meaningful family heirlooms, including a blanket from our late grandfather and a heart bearing our grandmother’s handwriting. Capturing these timeless items in photographs creates treasures that will forever hold memories. Moments like these reinforce exactly why I became a photographer: preserving legacies through images.

Charlotte, you kept me on my toes, but it was completely worth it.
