This 6-month milestone photography session featuring sweet baby Colter was an absolute delight! Watching my milestone photography clients grow from sleepy newborns to bubbly babies full of personality is one of the best parts of my job. Colter, with his bright red hair and adorable gummy smile, instantly melted my heart during his recent visit to my Cedar Falls, Iowa studio.
Celebrating Special Milestones with Customized Photography Sessions
Colter’s mom, Jasmin, has been one of my favorite clients ever since their maternity shoot. Every session is filled with laughter and genuine joy. During his newborn session, Colter wore a handmade cream and tan striped romper I designed specifically for his first portraits. For his 6-month session, I happened to have a matching outfit in his current size, making for the cutest comparison between his two sessions. Customized milestone sessions like these truly highlight the growth and changes babies go through, making them invaluable keepsakes.
Incorporating Sentimental Props into Milestone Sessions
Jasmin brought a handmade wooden baby crib, crafted by her late grandpa, to include in each of Colter’s sessions. When she first mentioned the crib during her maternity dress fitting, the emotional connection was palpable. Moments like these remind me why I am so deeply passionate about photography—it’s not just about capturing a moment; it’s about preserving family history, connections, and emotions. Including sentimental props is one of my absolute favorite ways to personalize a session, ensuring the images hold a deeper meaning.
Colors that Complement & Styles that Delight
With his stunning red hair, Colter looked absolutely perfect in shades of green and blue. For part of his milestone session, he rocked a sweet little sweater-knit romper complete with an adorable matching bear hat. The combination of his charming personality and outfit had everyone smiling! Later, we transitioned to the special striped romper in his great-grandpa’s crib, before wrapping up the session with a trendy, urban-style look. The stained concrete floors in my studio added just the right touch of style for this fun set.

Capturing these fleeting “little moments” is about more than just photography—it’s about preserving stages of life that pass far too quickly. As a mom myself, I feel a deep sense of nostalgia when I look back on my own children’s pictures, wishing I had taken even more! Colter’s milestone session perfectly encapsulates why photographs are the most precious gift we can give to ourselves and our loved ones.
I’m already counting down the days until I get to capture Colter’s next milestone. Until then, you might find me sending his mom frequent texts, hoping she’ll bring this little charmer back for another playdate at the studio soon!
